An update from the Wallcliffe House team

It has been sometime since we have provided you with an update on Wallcliffe House and whilst we may have been quiet - the project team has not been idle!

We have been busy refining the plans and preparing for the development application and we are delighted to share with you that we have received formal approval for the Scheme Amendment from the Shire as well as the State Government Planning Minister.

In coming weeks, a Development Application for the deconstruction of the derelict buildings at the Wallcliffe House will progress with the Shire.  You may recall from last year’s public consultation that the ruins are unsafe as they stand, and we intend to recycle and reuse as much of the building materials and so this very careful, deliberate process is required to protect and salvage as much as we can.

Before we can do that, we need to relocate a resident Osprey who has made their nest in the chimney ruins. Over the past few months the team has been working with our environmental consultants and other native bird handling experts to design a new nest platform which will be constructed away from the home but still within the Osprey territory.  The intention is to then expertly relocate the nest to this new site with as little disruption to the Osprey’s as possible.

To enable the new nest platform to be created a Development Application was required and has been approved and building permit issued.  And so we expect Operation Osprey to be completed as soon as possible pending the right conditions for the birds.

We are excited to have reached this next key phase in realising our vision for Wallcliffe House and we will of course update you all again in due course as we reach key milestones in the project.
